Basic Defensive Stance

May 19, 2012

This is perhaps the most basic and most important tip of all.  Your stance displays the confidence you have in yourself.  The picture below shows a woman ready to fight.  Imagine if she were to drop her hands to just above her breast and open them toward the threat.  She would look a lot less aggressive, but still just as ready to fight and perhaps even more confident.

Remember these points:

  • Feet – Stand on the balls of your feet
  • Feet – Shoulder width apart with your week foot slightly in front of your strong
  • Knees – Slightly bent to allow quick movement and absorb shock
  • Abdomen – firm, not to the point of exhaustion, but tight
  • Hands – at about the level of you chin or high chest
  • Hands – open until you have to hit
  • Head – on a swivel – looking around
  • Eyes – on your target
